Édito
The 6th edition of our Let’s French… music festival was a great success and we were so thrilled to see you in such great numbers! Our summer courses are busier than ever and our cultural programme for the coming two months has plenty to offer in terms of literature, music and social events. This year we have decided not to close the Alliance on the 14th of July for Bastille day and La Cocotte will have a treat for you on the day to celebrate our Fête Nationale !

IFI French Film Club. Set in the early years of the 16th century Wars of Religion, Bertrand Tavernier’s lavish literary epic is the story of a young noblewoman torn between love and duty. The titular Marie (Mélanie Thierry), though passionately in love with her cousin Henri (Gaspard Ulliel) and already promised to his brother, is arranged to be married to the son of one of her father’s political allies. Marie does as ordered, cutting ties with Henri and acquiescing to a loveless marriage. However, her husband’s jealousies are inflamed as his fellow noblemen openly covet his beautiful, innocent wife, while his tutor secretly loves her, a situation exacerbated by the reappearance of her true love. With impressively large-scale battle scenes and remarkable attention to period detail, this is commercial French cinema at its best.

IFI French Film Club. Paul Exben is a success story - partner in one of Paris's most exclusive law firms, big salary, big house, glamorous wife and two sons straight out of a Gap catalogue. However, when he finds out that Sarah, his wife, is cheating on him with Greg Kremer, a local photographer, a rush of blood provokes Paul into a fatal error. Standing over the corpse of his wife's lover, Paul knows that his perfect life has gone for good. By assuming the dead man's identity and fleeing to an isolated part of former Yugoslavia on the beautiful Adriatic coast, Paul gets another shot at being himself and, at last, seeing the big picture.
