MY TRAITOR
SORJ CHALANDON
APP CONTES:
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD
IMPROVE YOUR PRONUNCIATION [TEENS]

Book Launch. Sorj Chalandon, journalist for the Canard Enchaîné, wrote Mon traître, recently translated into English. The story is about Antoine, an idealistic young French violin-maker, who takes a train to Belfast in 1977 and is propelled into the heart of the Falls Road and the Republican movement as well as Ireland's music, suffering and beauty. An intense depiction of the nature of friendship and loyalty, and the loss and emptiness brought about by betrayal, My Traitor is alive with historical resonance. Kevin Power (Journalist and Writer) will interview Sorj Chalandon, a book sale and a signing session will follow.

12 POINTS! JAZZ FESTIVAL
METAL-O-PHONE
CINÉKID: LES ENFANTS
DE TIMPELBACH
FINALE OF THE JOUTES
ORATOIRES

Concert. Within the 12 Points Jazz Festival, MeTaL-O-PHoNe is coming from Paris to perform.
Distortion, feedback, delay - all once the exclusive property of guitarists but no longer, their usage has opened up intriguing possibilities across the instrumental spectrum. In applying them to the vibraphone, Benjamin Filament has found the sound of something wild in the heart of an instrument so often typecast as polite and mannered. The other two thirds of MeTaL-O-PHoNe have responded accordingly, and bassist Joachim Florent and drummer Elie Duris give no quarter in creating a swirling tempest of rhythms and textures that are perfectly in sync with this altered percussive landscape.

Thursday 5 May at 7pm
On production of AF membership card: 2 tickets for the price of 1
Box office: (01) 881 9613

Screening. The children in the quaint little town of Timpelbach are constantly up to no good. So, when mayhem breaks out after a pint-sized prankster ties an alarm clock to a cat’s tail, the grown-ups decide it’s time to teach their badly behaved offspring a lesson.

Adapted from Trouble at Timpetill by Henry Winterfeld.
Directed by Nicolas Bary, starring Gérard Depardieu, Joel Demarty, Carole Bouquet.

With the kind support of Institut Français.

Exhibition. In a close-up, the audience is only inches away, and your face becomes the stage -  Marlon Brando.
Dance Expression features portraits of French choreographers and other dance-makers participating in the 2011 Dublin Dance Festival, including a few familiar faces.
Peggy Jarrell Kaplan uses the portrait genre to approach dance obliquely, conveying qualities that are related to performance, but do not reproduce it. As an impressive collective portrait of the choreographic world, Kaplan allows us to know the dancer from the dance.

Opening Monday 16 May 6.30pm
Admission free

This exhibition will run from Tuesday 17 May to Saturday 25 June, within the Dublin Dance Festival.

She longs to give herself over, body and soul... but doesn't know if it is to God, or something else?

Katell Quillévéré handles the teen sexual awakening with sensitivity and religion with thought-provoking questions. Un poison violent (Love like Poison) is well made, intelligent and gently moving, and as such deserves due recognition.

Concert. The Royal Irish Academy of Music in association with the Alliance Francaise Dublin present L’Heure exquise, a concert celebrating the music of Reynaldo Hahn.

“This musical instrument of a genius called Reynaldo Hahn captures all the hearts, wets all the eyes, in the shiver of admiration which, conjured up in the distance, makes us tremble, makes us twist one after another in the silent and solemn swaying of wheat fields in the wind” Marcel Proust on Reynaldo Hahn.

Anna Brady, soprano; Laura Murphy, mezzo-soprano; Patrick Hyland, tenor and Benjamin Russell, baritone; Alexander Bernstein and Nadene Fiorentini, piano.
Devised by the award-winning pianist Marek Ruszczynski.

Wednesday 25 May at 7pm

Screening. Popular farceur, playwright and stand-up comic Dany Boon wraps a love letter to his native region of northern France with a sweet and funny tale which broke all audience records in France.
Philippe Abrams (Kad Merad), a post office manager in Provence, is punished when his superiors reassign him north. When he hears that 'north' does not mean Lyons or even Paris, he despairs. Colleagues tell him of a freezing dark place where it rains all year, people live in red-brick terrace houses and dunk Maroilles cheese in their coffee. When he arrives in Bergues, his car collides with Antoine Bailleul (Dany Boon), a postman and carillon ringer in the town belfry.
