CALI featuring
STEVE WICKHAM

Concert. Cali is a charismatic performer who meets with acclaim wherever he goes, developing an immediate rapport with his audience whether he is playing at a small, low-key venue or a major music festival. Cali’s generous performances, and his determination to extend his audience through live shows rather than marketing strategies, has earned him a reputation as a showman.
His second album,
Menteur, a new collection of pop ballads as lyrically accomplished and intimate as the last, was recorded with friends, between a studio near Dublin and a Provençal house in the South of France. Menteur was recorded with the help of Steve Wickham from The Waterboys, who will open the show for Cali.

L'IRLANDE ET LES IRLANDAIS
PIERRE JOANNON

Conference. In the last 10 years, Ireland’s economic status improved so greatly that a new phenomena emerged, known as the “Celtic Tiger” putting Ireland on a parallel with Taiwan and Singapore.
This new growth and wealth has stunned our European neighbours. In order to understand this dramatic change, we need to look back into this nation’s History…
Pierre Joannon (born in 1943) has published several historical books on Ireland such as : Le rêve irlandais, l’Hiver du Connétable, Charles de Gaulle et l’Irlande, Dublin 1904-1924 (Autrement publishers). Pierre Joannon is a co-founder of Etudes Irlandaises, and President and founder of l’Ireland Fund of France. Since 1973, he is also Consul Général of Ireland in five south-East départements in France.

Did you know ?
The Irish prefix "Fitz", as in Fitzgerald or Fitzalan is derived from the French word "fils", brought to Ireland by the Normans. Therefore "Fitz" has the same meaning than "Mac", "son of".

CELINE'S VOYAGE AU
BOUT DE LA NUIT

TOM QUINN

Conference. "The traumatic memory of the Great War in Louis-Ferdinand Céline Voyage au bout de la nuit". Dr Tom Quinn completed his PhD at DCU and has lectured on war and literature at DCU, Maynooth and at Queen’s University Belfast in the French Department.
This is a ground breaking book about one of the greatest and most influential writers of the 20th century. Not only does it clearly demonstrate the trauma experienced on the battelfield in 1914 that is at the heart of the author’s novel, but it is also the first critical study that thoroughly explains why and how it happened. The book provides new insights that help us to better understand the enigmatic Louis-Ferdinand Céline as well as Voyage au bout de la nuit and his other work.
