The growing attendance at our events seems to prove that we are
on the right path. April sees the launch of a new
rendez-vous called “à

12th FRANCO-IRISH
LITERARY FESTIVAL
8-10 APRIL 2011: GENERATIONS / GLUNTA |
FOOTSBARN
TRAVELLING THEATRE |
|
Festival.
Organised jointly by the
Alliance Française Dublin
and the
Cultural Service of the French Embassy,
the
Franco-Irish Literary Festival
will be held for the twelfth consecutive year on the 8, 9 and 10
April 2010 in Dublin Castle, the venue for the festival on
Friday and Saturday, and the Alliance Française for the
popular Sunday Literary Brunch.
The theme will be: "Generations
/ Glunta". We all have
the feeling of belonging to a certain
generation, but based on what criteria? Is it
being in the same age bracket? Is it common values and
tastes? Is it the shared experience of a social and
political event (the Baby-boom Generation, the Generation of ‘68,
the Internet Generation, etc)? Generation
is a universal theme but also a
paradox: are we in step with our generation? That is why
it raises so many question marks and feeds debate. This year the
festival will therefore be geared towards the various issues around
generations and their depiction in literature.
This year authors include: Geneviève
Brisac, Véronique Ovaldé, Virginie Linhart, Phillippe Forest, Eric
Fottorino, Claude Arnaud (France),
Mícheál Ó Conghaile, Siobhán Parkinson, Caitriona
O’Reilly, John Banville, Macdara Woods, Harry
Clifton, Keith Ridgway, Paul Murray (Ireland),
David Homel (Québec),
Julia Frank (Germany),
Carlo Gébler (UK).
We look
forward to seeing you on the 8th, 9th, 10th of April
2011!

Screening.
It’s September 1960 and on a
purely punitive basis, eight
scouts must climb the solid mass
of Brévent up to 2500 metres.
This
beautiful and majestic mountain
very quickly reveals
great dangers.
All the techniques of
orientation learned at the
scouts will serve for nothing. A
tension starts to emerge between
these young people of
different origins and divergent
concerns: some worry about
Algeria, for a brother left to
fight, or a family threatened by
expulsion, while the girls worry
about being liked.
Directed by
Jean-François Davy,
starring Jules Sitruk,
Jonathan Demurger, Damien
Jouillerot.

In continuous publication
since 1660, whether in pirated or legal form, or in individual or
collective editions, the work of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin (1622-73),
known to the world as
Molière,
has always excited admiration mixed with
controversy.
It was in this context, and to address these issues, that Georges
Forestier, Claude Bourqui, Edric Caldicott, and
Anne Piéjus signed a contract with Gallimard in 2003 to
produce a new edition of Molière’s works in the
Collection de la Pléiade.
Presentation by
Edric Caldicott
(Emeritus Professor of French
at UCD and member of the Pléiade editorial team) in
English. Q & A in French and English.

Lellouche, Jean Dujardin.
A gathering is hosted every
year by a couple at their beautiful beach house where

birthday of one of the gang.
But this
year is different. One of them is badly injured in a
serious motorbike accident just as they are about to
leave Paris for their seaside reunion. His friends flock
to the bedside, where their unconscious pal is still
alive but in intensive care. Over the course of the next
week, all the tensions within this group erupt into the
open.
