Édito
February may be the shortest month of the year, but it isn’t short on events at the Alliance Française Dublin: poetry, rugby, diplomacy, radio quiz, jazz, cinema, all in order to satisfy the many tastes and eclectic interests of our members. Also worth noting, with the start of our winter term, is the launch of our new programme for little ones called à petit pas. The best way of awakening the interest of 1-4 year old children in the French language with one of their parents. It is never too soon to open the eyes of children to the world!

From Wed 11th to Sat 14th February, young musicians from Holland, Norway, Denmark, France, Sweden, Italy, Finland, Germany and The UK will be here to provide the answers along with their Irish hosts, and Poland and Spain will also make their welcome accession to the 12 Points! zone.

Improvised Music Company and the Alliance Française are proud to present Émile Parisien Quartet.
Emile Parisien
's quartet established in 2004 along with pianist Julien Touery, bassist Ivan Gelugne and drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq. Modal structures provide the barest of frames for discursive journeys and taut control of pulse, both implied and overt.

PHILIPPE NOIREAUT'S
LES POETES

Concert. Philippe Noireaut began his career by accompanying Claude Nougaro, Serge Reggiani and François Béranger on keyboard and piano. He has since pursued his musical career, as composer, singer-songwriter and musical director. Philippe Noireaut has participated in several Francofolies Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival.
His show Les Poètes was created in 1997 for Radio Canada and, thanks to its success, has toured extensively ever since. Celebrating diverse eras and styles, from very well-known poets to others long forgotten, this recital has one key element: the pleasure of discovering and re-reading texts, some classical, which show us just how universal the human experience is and in this way brings us closer to the experience of past centuries.

Before departing on a tour of the Alliances Françaises in China Philippe Noireaut honours us with a stopover at the Alliance Française Dublin with the support of the Canadian Embassy.

BERTRAND TAVERNIER'S
COUP DE TORCHON

Screening. Adapted from Jim Thompson’s Pop. 1280, Coup de Torchon is one of the finest works by Bertrand Tavernier who cleverly decided to transpose this original South American thriller to a pre-Second-World-War French colony.
A powerful drama, with a desperate humanism, it is nonetheless a strong and intelligent adaptation, faithful to the spirit of the work rather than a literal interpretation; this film includes an astonishing performance by Philippe Noiret, as a good-natured but weak man who makes it his responsibility to save a humanity rushing to its own destruction.
