FORTHCOMING TERM
30 JANUARY / 27 MAY 2006

Term 3 will begin at the end of the month. This is the second 16 weeks session of our academic year. It is open to both former and new students.

We are opening all kind of classes : General French courses, cultural workshops, conversation courses,  and secondary school classes are available.

Assessments for adults courses will be held this month in the Café des Amis between 5pm and 7pm on the following dates :

Assessments are free of charge and no booking is required. Please note that you do not need an assessment if you are a complete beginner or if you are re-enrolling from last September Term.

Did you know ?
On the first Sunday after the Epiphany (6th January), the French celebrate the Fête des Rois Mages with a special pastry, known as galette des rois (Kings' Cake). This pie contans a figurine (la fève) hidden somewhere inside. The person who finds it is king or queen for the day and entitled to wear a paper crown !

GALETTE DES ROIS

L' Association des Français en Irlande is organising the traditional Galette des Rois tasting on Thursday 19th January at 7pm (admission 8 euro). For more information click here.

JOUTES ORATOIRES
DEBATING COMPETITION

The Joutes Oratoires is a French language debating competition between second level schools in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Since 2001 the competition has been brought to a European stage with a Franco-Irish competition opposing the Irish team selected from over one hundred students to the prestigious Lycée Fénelon in Paris.

This year topic is : L'avenir n'est interdit à personne. The Irish team will speak in favour of the motion.

Lynette Woods is a colourist using the photographic medium. The exhibition Dublin in Detail derives from her interest in harmony with nature and the reflection of classic georgian architecture in the new.

OPEN DAY / BOOK FAIR

The Alliance Française organises an Open-day twice a year. This is the chance to meet some of our staff and get information on our courses, exams and cultural events. All official brochures will be available.

At the same time a Book Fair, organised by the Médiathèque Française, will be held in the Café des Amis. There you will find new and second-hand books, a large selection of novels, art books, history books, dictionnaries, and lots more !

Le Café des Amis

The Café des Amis is located on the ground floor of the Alliance. There you may enjoy a hot or cold drink, some French patisserie or a full lunch at any time of the day. We also organise a number of cultural events there. It is our art gallery - where a different exhibition is displayed each month. It is also the venue for several concerts, conferences and book launches and special student events such as the Students’ Table Quiz

or the end-of-year Children’s Show. Furthermore, this is where you attend for an assessment if you are a new student intending to enrol in one of our courses.  Open to everyone Monday to Friday from 9am to 7.30pm, Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
